₹310 Crore Velachery Flyover Project to Improve Chennai Traffic

Enhancing Connectivity and Reducing Traffic Congestion

Tamil Nadu Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu has announced a major infrastructure project in Chennai—a flyover worth an estimated ₹310 crore in Velachery. The project aims to improve connectivity between Guindy and Velachery while easing traffic congestion in the region.

Key Highlights of the Project:

• Project Scope: The Velachery flyover will stretch approximately 3 km, starting from Sardar Patel Junction and extending beyond Phoenix Mall.
• Structure and Design: The bridge will have two lanes with a 12-meter width, seamlessly covering Race Course Road Junction, Five Furlong Road Junction, and Velachery Bypass Road Junction.
• Additional Infrastructure: Authorities have planned 5.5-meter-wide down ramps at Five Furlong Road and near Guru Nanak College. The design also includes a 1.5-meter-wide footpath and a 5.5-meter-wide service road on both sides to enhance accessibility.

Land Acquisition and Implementation Plan

To facilitate construction, authorities will acquire approximately 1,100 square meters of land. The government is expected to float the tender within the next three months, ensuring swift project execution.

With the completion of the Velachery flyover, Chennai will witness a significant boost in road infrastructure, reducing congestion and improving travel efficiency for commuters. This initiative is part of Tamil Nadu’s broader efforts to enhance urban connectivity and modernize transportation networks.
