The Government of India, in partnership with the Rajasthan government, has started work on a new six-lane greenfield expressway. This expressway will connect Sri Ganganagar to Jaipur and will make the journey smoother and faster for travellers. Currently, the Detailed Project Report (DPR) work has already started.
At present, it takes about 8 hours to travel from Sri Ganganagar to Jaipur. However, after the construction of this expressway, the travel time will reduce to just 5 hours. The new road will also reduce the total distance between the two cities by 60 kilometres. So, instead of travelling 467 km, the journey will now be just 407 km long.
In addition to saving time, this expressway will also help in the smooth transport of goods. Important local products such as gypsum, edible oils, and agricultural produce from Sri Ganganagar and granite stones from the Jhunjhunu region will reach markets faster.
This expressway will start from RIICO Industrial Area Bypass in Sri Ganganagar and end at the Mandalana-Narnaul Bypass in Kotputli. It will pass through key towns like Rawatsar, Nohar, Bhadra, Sadulpur, Pilani, Surajgarh, Buhana, and Narnaul. These areas will benefit from better road connectivity and more trade opportunities.
Also, the expressway will connect to major highways like the Amritsar–Jamnagar Economic Corridor and the Delhi–Vadodara Expressway, making travel easier across northern and western India.
The total cost of this expressway project will be ₹12,049 crore. To build the expressway, around 2700 hectares of land will be acquired. The DPR work alone will cost ₹30 crore. Once the report is complete, construction work will begin.
This project was announced in the government’s budget and is being taken up as a major step to boost road connectivity in the region. Perhaps, this expressway will not only improve travel but also create new growth opportunities for industries and businesses.
