Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated a series of development projects worth Rs 55 billion in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. According to an official press release, these projects are designed to lay the groundwork for Mahakumbh 2025, while also boosting spiritual tourism and improving connectivity in the region.
Speaking to a large crowd, PM Modi emphasized India's deep connection to sacred rivers like the Ganga, Yamuna, Saraswati, Kaveri, and Narmada. He highlighted Prayag as the spiritual confluence of these rivers, symbolizing their immense significance.
Key projects announced during the inauguration include:
Rail and Road Infrastructure: The construction of 10 new Road Over Bridges (RoBs) and flyovers. These will be accompanied by the development of permanent ghats and riverfront roads to enhance connectivity and infrastructure in Prayagraj.
Swachh and Nirmal Ganga Project: This initiative focuses on intercepting and treating minor drains leading into the Ganga. It aims to ensure zero discharge of untreated water. The project will also improve drinking water and electricity infrastructure in the region.
Major Temple Corridors: The development of temple corridors, including the Bharadwaj Ashram, Shringverpur Dham, Akshayvat, and Hanuman Mandir Corridors. These corridors will improve access for devotees and promote spiritual tourism.
In addition, the Prime Minister announced the launch of the "Kumbh Sahayak" chatbot. This AI-powered tool, capable of conversing in 11 Indian languages, will assist pilgrims during the Kumbh Mela.
PM Modi also highlighted plans for the development of the Hanuman Corridor and Akshayvat Corridor, along with inquiries into the Saraswati Koop redevelopment project.
Regarding Mahakumbh 2025, preparations are in full swing. Over 15,000 sanitation workers will be deployed to maintain cleanliness during the event. A temporary city will be set up on the banks of the Sangam to accommodate millions of daily visitors for approximately 1.5 months. The event is expected to generate thousands of jobs for retailers, boatmen, and individuals assisting with religious ceremonies.
