Mumbai is all set to get smoother east-west connectivity as the final phase of the Santacruz-Chembur Link Road (SCLR) is almost complete. The much-awaited 90-degree cable-stayed bridge over the Western Express Highway (WEH) is progressing quickly and is expected to open by July 2025. This new structure will complete the SCLR corridor, helping thousands of commuters avoid congested diversions at Vakola and Hans Bhugra Marg junctions.
Once opened, the bridge will offer a signal-free route from the Eastern Express Highway (EEH) to WEH, reducing travel time for both public transport and private vehicles. According to the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), this final link will be a game-changer for the city’s transport system.
“This 90-degree cable-stayed bridge is the last key piece in the SCLR puzzle. We are aiming to open it for public use by mid-July,” said an MMRDA official.
The SCLR extension project is one of Mumbai’s most important urban infrastructure developments. It directly connects Kurla to Santacruz, reaching close to the airport near Panbai School. Parts of the SCLR are already in use, but this bridge will complete the full east-west corridor.
With better road conditions, truck movement carrying building materials, equipment, and goods across the city will also become smoother and quicker. This is especially important for construction, logistics, and infrastructure industries that depend on reliable transport routes.
As Mumbai grows rapidly, efficient roads like the SCLR corridor are essential for saving time and reducing traffic stress. The completion of the cable-stayed bridge will not only benefit daily commuters but also improve the movement of trucks and boost infrastructure development in the city.
