After nearly 14 years of planning and revisions, Jaipur Metro Line 2 from Sitapura to Vidhyadhar Nagar is finally set for construction in mid-2025. The Urban Development and Housing (UDH) department has confirmed that the Rajasthan government is eager to lay the foundation stone ahead of the civic elections in November 2024.
The Jaipur Metro Line 2 proposal was originally conceived in 2011, with the Sitapura-Ambabari corridor planned for initial development. However, the government prioritized the Mansarovar-Sindhi Camp route, later extended to Badi Chaupar, delaying Line 2. Over the years, multiple DPRs were prepared and revised, leading to an extended waiting period for the project.
A metro official remarked, "If the government proceeds with the groundbreaking ceremony in 2025, it will bring an end to 13 years of anticipation for Jaipur's Metro Line 2."
Following a recent meeting at the Chief Minister’s residence on March 11, 2024, the state government has set clear deadlines for Jaipur Metro Line 2. With DPR finalization and tender execution on track, the long-pending infrastructure project is finally moving forward. The new metro line is expected to significantly enhance urban connectivity and reduce traffic congestion in Jaipur.
