The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has finished the design for a new interchange that will connect the Yamuna Expressway and the Eastern Peripheral Expressway (KGP). The land survey for this project is also complete, and construction is expected to begin soon. NHAI aims to finish the project within this year.
The new interchange will be built at Jaganpur-Afzalpur, about 10 kilometers from the Yamuna Expressway's starting point. The land required for the project, about 60 hectares, has already been acquired. Earlier, there was a problem with farmers opposing the land acquisition, but this issue has now been resolved.
The project will cost around Rs 270 crore. Once completed, it will help reduce the travel distance by 20 kilometers. Currently, there is no direct link between KGP and the Yamuna Expressway, which forces drivers to take a 15 to 20-kilometer detour. As a result, they often face traffic jams at Pari Chowk and Kasna. The new interchange will make travel faster and smoother for everyone.
The planned interchange will have eight loops, covering a total of 11 kilometers. There will be four loops for vehicles to get onto the expressway and four for getting off. This design will ensure a smooth connection between the two expressways without causing traffic congestion.
In addition to making travel easier, the new interchange is expected to improve traffic flow on the Eastern Peripheral Expressway, which currently has only one interchange near the Sirsa area. With all approvals in place, the project is set to move forward soon.
