The Yamuna Expressway, also called the Taj Expressway, is a major highway that connects Greater Noida with Agra. It is 165.5 km long and has six lanes, which can be expanded to eight in the future. Since it opened on 9 August 2012, this expressway has helped reduce travel time between the two cities and has also improved trade and transport across western Uttar Pradesh.
The road is made of strong concrete and allows fast travel. Light commercial vehicles can run at a speed of up to 100 km/h, while heavy commercial vehicles can go up to 60 km/h.
There are six interchanges along the expressway and three large toll plazas. Each toll plaza has between 32 to 52 lanes, which helps in managing traffic smoothly. In addition, there are 70 vehicular underpasses and 41 minor bridges to make the journey more comfortable.
One of the best parts of the Yamuna Expressway is its focus on safety. It has some of the most modern Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) in India.
Apart from this, emergency call boxes are installed every 2 km. There are also patrol teams, ambulances, trauma centres, and fire vehicles ready to help. Crash barriers, road signs, cat-eyes, and markings further add to road safety.
Here’s a quick look at the toll rates for different destinations:
