Wolffkran, one of the leading tower crane makers, has launched its new luffing jib crane, the WOLFF 550 B, at this year’s Bauma event. This new crane is a strong and flexible machine made especially for big construction projects. It joins Wolffkran’s bauma pack and stands out because of its high lifting power and smart design.
The demand for large cranes is growing across the world. Many construction companies need strong cranes for building infrastructure, factories, and even data centers. Mohamed Abouelezz, Head of Business Development and Product Management at Wolffkran, said, “Our customers are now asking more and more for cranes in the 500 to 600 mt range. That is why we decided to introduce a new crane between our well-known WOLFF 355 B and WOLFF 630 B.”
The WOLFF 550 B is made to match these growing needs. It comes with a 110-kW hoist winch, which allows the crane to lift up to 30 tons in two-fall operation and 15 tons in single-fall mode. At the end of its 65-meter-long jib, it can still lift a load of 5 tons. These lifting numbers are among the best in this category. In addition, Wolffkran plans to make this crane even stronger by the end of the year. A more powerful version will soon be available with a 36-ton lifting capacity and a US version will come with a 132-kW hoist winch.
What makes the WOLFF 550 B more useful is its hook path and speed. It can lift materials up to 920 meters in single-fall mode and 460 meters in two-fall mode. It also lifts at a speed of 200 meters per minute. This saves time and increases work speed at construction sites.
Another key benefit is its flexible tower connection. By default, it comes with a 2.3-meter tower that allows a freestanding height of nearly 52 meters. However, when mounted on a 2.9-meter tower, it can go up to 82.2 meters without needing extra support. This makes the crane ideal for tall buildings and high-rise projects.
In addition to this, the new crane works well with Wolffkran’s KSH 23 internal climbing frame. This system helps the crane climb almost 27 meters in one go, which is much more than the standard climbing system. As a result, this reduces setup time and overall costs for builders.
The WOLFF 550 B also features a Flex Cab cabin. It can be fitted either on the right or left side of the crane, making it easier to plan the construction site. Earlier, this feature was only available if customers specially requested it. However, it is now a standard option because many customers asked for it.
Interestingly, at Bauma, Wolffkran displayed the WOLFF 550 B crane with two cabins for the first time. This was done to showcase the Flex Cab feature. The new crane will be open for orders from June 2025 and will be available in Europe, the US, and the Middle East later this year.
