The Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) signed a ₹300 crore agreement with Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd. (RVNL) on Thursday. This agreement aims to construct a flyover that will reduce traffic congestion and improve the movement of cargo via road and rail traffic towards the port. This project is designed to enhance traffic management and streamline cargo evacuation for the port.
Enhanced Traffic Flow : The flyover will significantly reduce traffic congestion in and around the port, making the movement of cargo faster and more efficient.
Strategic Location : The flyover will connect Seahorse Junction to the dock area at Visakhapatnam Port, covering key areas of the city, including critical routes leading to the port.
Cost and Duration : The project is expected to cost ₹300 crore, with a construction span of 3.3 km.
The official press release from the Visakhapatnam Port Authority stated, “The flyover will eliminate 11 level crossings that currently hinder smooth traffic flow. This will ensure uninterrupted cargo movement, improving overall efficiency at the port. ”A senior official from RVNL added, “This flyover will not only ease the traffic for cargo vehicles but will also boost the port's overall operations. The project is crucial for the long-term growth of Visakhapatnam Port.”
The flyover will stretch over 3.3 km and will feature a carriageway width of 7 meters for two lanes and 10.5 meters for three lanes, facilitating smooth entry and exit for vehicles bound for the port.
The flyover will provide a much-needed solution to the traffic issues affecting the port area. By facilitating better traffic flow, the project will enhance cargo movement, reducing delays and operational costs. The infrastructure improvement will also benefit the local economy by ensuring timely delivery of goods.
This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to improving the operational efficiency of the Visakhapatnam Port. The flyover will play a crucial role in handling the increasing traffic volume, contributing to the economic growth of the region and strengthening the port's position as a key maritime hub.
