To tackle traffic congestion and enhance road connectivity, the UP government has announced an investment of ₹6,124 crore for the construction of flyovers. This initiative, led by CM Yogi Adityanath, aims to streamline vehicular movement and support economic growth.
The Public Works Department (PWD) has outlined a comprehensive plan for the financial year 2025–26, identifying 62 projects for immediate implementation. These projects are strategically planned to alleviate traffic pressure and improve the overall transportation network in Uttar Pradesh.
According to the PWD, priority will be given to regions with high population density and heavy vehicular movement. Municipalities and councils with populations exceeding one lakh are set to benefit the most from this initiative. However, areas with existing national highways are excluded, as NHAI will handle bypass and ring road construction there.
The infrastructure development plan also aligns with the state's broader economic objectives. By enhancing road connectivity, especially for freight and truck movement, the government aims to make transport smoother and more efficient. This thereby enhances the development of various industrial parks and logistics hubs across Uttar Pradesh.
Moreover, this ambitious project is a part of the state's efforts to transform Uttar Pradesh into a USD 1 trillion economy. Improved transportation infrastructure plays a crucial role in achieving this goal.
