The Gujarat government has given the green signal to two major expressway projects — the Namo Shakti Expressway and the Somnath-Dwarka Expressway. These new roads are set to improve road connectivity, boost trade, and give a strong push to tourism in the state.
The Namo Shakti Expressway will be a 430 km-long greenfield road from Desa to Pipavav. The estimated project cost ranges between ₹36,120 crore and ₹39,120 crore. This expressway will pass through 13 districts including Rajkot, Ahmedabad, Amreli, and Banaskantha, connecting ports, industrial zones, and religious places. It is expected to ease the movement of goods and heavy trucks, especially in industrial belts.
Gujarat’s Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel said, “These expressways reflect our strong vision for modern and fast infrastructure. They will create new opportunities for industries and bring faster transportation to every corner of Gujarat.”
The Somnath-Dwarka Expressway will be 680 km long and cost around ₹57,120 crore. Once ready, it will reduce travel time from Ahmedabad to Somnath to just four hours. The route will pass through important pilgrimage and tourist spots such as Dwarka, Modhera, Ambaji, Jamnagar, and Porbandar.
This expressway will especially benefit pilgrims and also help in reducing traffic congestion. Tourism-related businesses, hotels, and truck services in the region are expected to grow rapidly.
The Gujarat State Road Development Corporation (GSRDC) has already invited bids for DPRs (Detailed Project Reports) and feasibility studies. Both expressways will be developed under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. Key features include wildlife crossings, truck bays, and smart interchanges to ensure smooth traffic flow.
As per government officials, over 45% of Gujarat’s population will directly benefit from these expressways.
With work beginning soon, Gujarat is set to move ahead with a stronger, faster, and more connected future.
