The construction of the double-decker flyover between Municipal Chowk (Rajendra Chowk) and Gandhi Chowk in Saran district is set to resume soon. Work was halted due to land acquisition problems, but the obstacles have now been removed.
A district administration official stated that once construction resumes, the public will get much-needed relief. The incomplete flyover had caused traffic congestion and inconvenience for the locals.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar laid the foundation stone for this ambitious project on July 11, 2018. The deadline for completion was June 2022, but the project was delayed due to land acquisition issues.
The five-metre-wide flyover was planned from Police Lines to the government bus stand. The upper deck of the flyover is 3,507 metres long, while the lower deck stretches 2,757 metres.
However, some land along the route was marked as “unsurveyed”, making compensation payments difficult. This issue led to work being halted. Now, most landowners have received their compensation, while others are waiting for payment.
On the western side, work has been completed from Municipal Chowk to the bus stand. Similarly, on the eastern side, construction has been finished from Gandhi Chowk to Police Line.
However, the section between Gandhi Chowk and Municipal Chowk remains incomplete. Now that land issues have been cleared, work is expected to resume soon.
Many residents believe the flyover will enhance the city’s appearance and improve traffic flow. However, some locals argue that the construction has disrupted daily life, especially in commercial areas.
A few people also question the need for this flyover. They point out that a six-lane bypass is almost complete, and a new road from Bishnupura to Revilganj is being planned along the Saryu River.
Despite mixed opinions, the flyover project is moving forward, and once completed, it will significantly boost connectivity in the city.
