As part of the ‘Pothole-Free Roads’ initiative and the ‘Palle Panduga’ programme, rural road projects worth Rs 150 crore are being carried out across the state. These projects aim to improve connectivity and road conditions in rural areas.
The projects include the construction of 1,143 inter-village link roads and internal village roads, covering a total of 80 km. Nearly 80% of the work has been completed, with the remaining work progressing steadily. These efforts are part of the state government’s plan to improve rural infrastructure.
To boost these projects, the government has also added the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) to provide labor support. District authorities have been directed to complete all road construction before Sankranti. The goal is to offer improved road connectivity just in time for the festival.
In districts near Ongole, such as Kothapatnam, Maddipadu, and SN Padu mandals, road construction is advancing quickly. Over 80% of the work has been completed in these areas. Maddipadu mandal received Rs 3.30 crore for 7.3 km of CC roads. This includes roads in Maddipadu BC Colony and internal roads in areas like Doddavaram, Nagannapalem, and Kolachanakota. Most of the roads in this area are already finished, with only a few left to complete.
In SN Padu and Kothapatnam mandals, Rs 3 crore was allocated for road work in each mandal. These projects are nearing completion. Authorities report that most of the roads are finished, and the rest will be done in a couple of days.
C. Srinivasa Rao from Basavannapalem in Maddipadu mandal shared that the villagers are happy with the improved roads. He mentioned that most of the roads are now finished, and the remaining work will be completed soon.
Authorities are optimistic that all the road projects will be completed ahead of the scheduled deadline. This will ensure smoother travel and better infrastructure for rural communities.
