The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has approved the construction of a 4-lane access-controlled greenfield and brownfield Patna-Arrah-Sasaram corridor. The project will span 120.10 km and be developed under the Hybrid Annuity Mode (HAM) with a total capital cost of Rs. 3,712.40 crore. This corridor is expected to enhance connectivity and boost economic development in Bihar.
The alignment of this corridor integrates seamlessly with major national highways, including NH-19, NH-319, NH-922, NH-131G, and NH-120. This connectivity will provide direct access to key cities such as Aurangabad, Kaimur, and Patna. Additionally, the corridor will improve access to two airports—Jay Prakash Narayan International Airport in Patna and the upcoming Bihita airport. It will also connect four major railway stations (Sasaram, Arrah, Danapur, and Patna) and one Inland Water Terminal in Patna. Furthermore, the project will be linked to the Patna Ring Road, ensuring smoother transit for goods and passengers.
Upon completion, the Patna-Arrah-Sasaram corridor is set to play a crucial role in boosting regional economic growth. It will enhance connectivity between major cities such as Lucknow, Patna, Ranchi, and Varanasi. The project aligns with the government's vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat, focusing on infrastructure development while creating employment opportunities. It is estimated to generate 22 lakh person-days of direct employment and 26 lakh person-days of indirect employment, contributing to socio-economic progress in Bihar.
The total civil cost of the project is Rs. 2,989.08 crore, while the land acquisition cost stands at Rs. 718.97 crore. The corridor, classified under NH-119A, is expected to witness an annual average daily traffic (AADT) of 17,000-20,000 Passenger Car Units (PCUs) by FY-25. With this improved infrastructure, the region is poised for enhanced trade, development, and prosperity, ultimately benefiting millions of people in Bihar and neighboring states.
