The Network Planning Group (NPG) recently reviewed four big infrastructure projects under the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan. This was done during its 92nd meeting held on 29 April 2025.
These projects include one highway project from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) and three railway projects from the Ministry of Railways (MoR). The main goal is to build better roads and railway connections to boost trade, improve travel, and support economic growth.
The Rishikesh Bypass project in Uttarakhand was put forward by MoRTH through the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). This proposed road will be a six/four-lane access-controlled bypass. It will help reduce heavy traffic in Rishikesh and make travel easier on NH-34.
In addition, this new bypass will connect major cities and spiritual places like Delhi, Haridwar, and Badrinath. It will also link industrial areas like Dehradun, SIDCUL, and BHEL. Most importantly, it will give better access to border areas like Mana, Nelang, and Niti.
Moreover, the plan includes a 6/4-lane elevated road and another 4-lane route. These will give drivers more options, ease traffic pressure, and prepare for future travel needs.
Another major project is the Bina–Itarsi fourth railway line in Madhya Pradesh. This railway stretch will be about 237 km long and will pass through key stations like Bhopal, Rani Kamalapati, Vidisha, and Narmadapuram.
This new line will help reduce travel time by 46 minutes and increase the train speed by around 10 kmph. As a result, goods movement will become faster and more efficient.
The Kasara–Manmad railway project includes building two new railway lines in Maharashtra. These lines will pass through the Kasara–Igatpuri section in the hills and the Igatpuri–Manmad stretch in the plains.
This project will remove the need for extra engines on steep slopes, which means trains will use less energy. In addition, the route will skip some busy stations to make goods transport smoother and faster.
The final project is the third and fourth railway lines between Bhusawal and Wardha, covering 314 km. This route crosses five districts — Jalgaon, Buldhana, Akola, Amravati, and Wardha.
It will include new tracks, better station setups, and improved signals. Since this route is part of the busy Mumbai–Howrah railway corridor, it will help ease heavy goods traffic and make the Central Railway network stronger.
These projects, when completed, will play a key role in improving travel and trade across different parts of India.
