The Network Planning Group (NPG) held its 95th meeting on 13 June 2025, chaired by DPIIT Joint Secretary Pankaj Kumar, to evaluate five critical infrastructure projects in line with the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan (PMGS-NMP). The reviewed projects include metro connectivity, elevated urban roads, and multi-modal logistics parks (MMLPs) aimed at strengthening multimodal integration and logistics efficiency.
The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) has proposed a 6.032 km extension of the Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project Phase-2A to link Koteshwar Metro Station with Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport.
This targeted expansion aims to:
The project is strategically designed to support long-term mobility needs by promoting public transport and ensuring a smoother commuting experience for residents, travelers, and airport staff.
To support the development of Vadhavan Port in Maharashtra as a major global container hub, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has proposed an 8-lane access-controlled highway along NH-248S.
This strategic corridor will:
With a natural draft of 20 meters, the port aims to handle 15 million TEUs in Phase 1 and scale to 23.2 million TEUs in Phase 2, placing it among the world’s top 10 container ports upon completion.
The MoRTH also proposed a 4-lane elevated road corridor in Jodhpur, extending from Mahamandir to Akhaliya Chouraha, strategically aligned along NH-62 and NH-125.
Key features include:
This project will provide a smoother and faster transit route, directly addressing congestion in one of Rajasthan’s most trafficked city zones.
In Telangana, the Multi-Modal Logistics Park (MMLP) planned at Parkibanda village, Manoharabad Mandal (Medak District), is a strategic investment to boost freight efficiency in and around Hyderabad.
Project details:
The park is expected to become a logistics backbone for southern India, offering faster and cost-effective cargo movement for multiple industries.
Another key proposal from MoRTH is the MMLP at Jaitiya village, Fatuah Taluka, in Patna District, Bihar, envisioned to be a major logistics center for eastern India.
Key attributes:
The location offers direct access to trade corridors and major destinations like Patna International Airport, Kolkata, and Haldia Port, making it ideal for domestic and international cargo handling.
Speaking at the meeting, Joint Secretary Pankaj Kumar emphasized that the evaluated projects reflect the core vision of PM GatiShakti, which integrates transport planning across sectors for holistic infrastructure development.
He noted, “These projects will significantly improve logistics efficiency, reduce transit costs, and promote sustainable urban development. The goal is to ensure seamless movement of people and goods while fueling regional economic growth.”
The NPG’s review marks a critical step toward accelerating multimodal connectivity, especially through last-mile urban and port-linking infrastructure. Plus, these developments will ease movement of trucks and commercial vehicles, making cargo delivery faster and more efficient across key routes. Also, the combination of urban transit upgrades, strategic freight corridors, and logistics parks signals a coordinated national approach to enable faster, smarter, and sustainable infrastructure growth.
