The Noida Authority has announced a significant ₹8 crore investment to upgrade the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway. The Project focuses on a vital 24-kilometre route connecting Delhi, Noida, Greater Noida, and the Yamuna Expressway. To make travel safer, these changes will help improve night visibility and overall road safety for the thousands of people who use this road every day.
This initiative comes after a thorough traffic audit by the Regional Centre for Urban and Environmental Studies highlighted critical deficiencies in the existing infrastructure. The audit revealed that faded or missing lane dividers, cat-eye reflectors, and direction markers were creating hazardous conditions, particularly during nighttime travel.
The Noida Authority has issued a tender for these crucial upgrades, with applications being accepted until May 15. The project will commence from Sector 14A and extend across the entire length of the expressway. The key components of this safety-focused upgrade include:
Introduction of rumble strips at exit points to alert drivers to slow down. These strips will be especially useful for heavy vehicles like Trucks which require more distance to come to a safe halt. Installation of prominent speed limit signs will further encourage adherence to safe speeds.
All infrastructure enhancements will be carried out in accordance with the Indian Road Congress (IRC) standards. This ensures clearly visible lane separation, well-defined access points, and effective traffic guidance systems. The project also includes improvements to the existing infrastructure along the expressway.
Enhanced and more visible signage will be installed for the 13-foot overbridges and approximately 20 public sanitation units. This will make them easier to locate, especially during low-light conditions.
The Noida-Greater Noida Expressway's importance is set to increase with the upcoming Noida International Airport in Jewar. These proactive safety upgrades aim to accommodate the anticipated rise in traffic and ensure the well-being of all commuters.
Earlier, the Noida Authority identified several safety issues during their inspections. “The expressway is very important for connecting different areas and keeping traffic moving, but we saw many issues,” an official told a popular news channel.
With these planned upgrades, commuters can look forward to a safer and more efficient journey on the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway in the near future.
