In a significant boost to regional infrastructure, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has signed a concession agreement with infrastructure firm M/s Dineshchandra R Agrawal Infracon Pvt. Ltd. for the construction of the 121-kilometre Guwahati Ring Road. This strategic project aims to ease urban traffic congestion, streamline logistics, and strengthen transport links across the Northeast region.
Finalised in the presence of NHAI Chairman Santosh Kumar Yadav and senior officials from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, this agreement reflects India's focused approach to balanced development and improved mobility in emerging regions.
The Guwahati Ring Road is designed to divert freight and heavy vehicles away from the city center, helping to decongest urban roads, reduce noise and air pollution, and improve road safety. This development-focused project is expected to cut travel time for both goods and passengers, making commuting smoother and logistics more efficient across the region.
By improving connectivity between industrial clusters, rural areas, and major trade corridors, the project will create new economic opportunities. It is expected to boost border trade and strengthen the supply chain between Northeast states and the rest of the country, facilitating faster and safer movement of goods.
A senior NHAI official noted, “This ring road is a crucial part of our vision for inclusive growth and modern infrastructure. It reflects how targeted investments in road networks can open up new pathways for trade, tourism, and regional development.”
The project is aligned with India's broader vision for integrated transport infrastructure. Once operational, it will become a vital component of the region’s transport ecosystem—linking seamlessly with existing highways and corridors while meeting long-term mobility needs.
The selected concessionaire will handle construction, operations, and toll management for the duration of the contract. Construction is expected to begin soon, with timelines to be announced in the coming months.
