The much-awaited expansion of NH-65 into a six-lane highway from Hyderabad to Vijayawada will commence in three months. Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy announced the news on Monday. He stated that necessary steps would be taken to ensure the project is completed at the earliest.
The Minister revealed that the government aims to make NH-65 an accident-free highway. This will also reduce travel time between Hyderabad and Vijayawada to just two hours.
Venkat Reddy informed that the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has floated tenders for the construction of the northern section of the Regional Ring Road (RRR). This section will cover 161.518 kilometers from Sangareddy to Choutuppal. The total estimated cost of the project is Rs. 7,104.06 crore. He added that the tenders are expected to be opened on February 14.
The Minister mentioned that a letter was sent to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. The letter urged the central government to prioritize the construction of a port at Veliminedu in Nalgonda. The proposed port will connect Bandar and Kakinada ports in Andhra Pradesh via Gundrampally, which is close to the RRR.
Venkat Reddy criticized opposition parties for spreading false information about land acquisition. He accused them of misleading farmers by claiming their lands would be acquired for a flyover between Tirumalagiri Village and Suryapet.
He noted that similar misinformation was spread during the construction of the flyover between Arvapalli and Damacharla road. Despite losing deposits in the Assembly elections, opposition parties continue to create confusion, he added.
The Minister clarified that the ongoing survey at Arvapalli is for junction improvement to prevent accidents, not for flyover construction. He assured farmers that no land would be acquired for these works.
Venkat Reddy emphasized that the government is committed to protecting farmers’ interests and urged opposition parties to refrain from spreading false information.
