The Bharatmala Pariyojana, a flagship infrastructure initiative by the Government of India, is making significant strides in Bihar. A pivotal component of this progress is the construction of a new roadway connecting Saharsa to Patna, aiming to reduce travel time to approximately three hours.
This development is part of a broader effort to enhance connectivity across the state, facilitating smoother transportation and fostering economic growth.
The Saharsa–Patna Road Connectivity project, undertaken under the Bharatmala Pariyojana, is a major infrastructure initiative aimed at transforming Bihar’s road. With an estimated cost of ₹527 crore, this project is expected to be completed by December 2025. Once finished, it will significantly reduce travel time between Saharsa and Patna to approximately 3 hours.
This improved route will particularly benefit trade and logistics, especially for truck operators who frequently transport goods across these regions. Additionally, it will give a major boost to religious tourism by facilitating smoother access to prominent spiritual sites, including the Tarapith temple located in Mahishi.
Deputy Chief Minister and Road Construction Minister of Bihar, Vijay Kumar Sinha, stated "The state government is committed to reducing travel time from any district of Bihar to Patna to just 3 to 3.5 hours by 2027-28. This is being achieved through expedited road widening and new construction projects across the state."
The Cabinet Committee, led by PM Modi, has approved a 4-lane Patna–Sasaram corridor under Bharatmala Pariyojana. This 120.10 km project, with a total capital cost of ₹3,712.40 crore, aims to further enhance regional connectivity and economic development in Bihar.
These projects show the government's strong focus on improving Bihar’s roads, boosting the economy, and making life easier for people.
