The Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project is set to take a giant leap with a new extension to Delhi, passing through 657 km of Rajasthan. This corridor will connect major cities like Jaipur, Udaipur, Ajmer, and Alwar, and reach smaller regions like Bhilwara, Chittorgarh, and Dungarpur, bringing fast rail service to over 335 villages.
Officials from the Railway Infrastructure Development Authority confirmed that the route will have 11 high-speed train stations, 9 of which are in Rajasthan. These stations will include Shahjahanpur, Behror, Jaipur, Ajmer, Bhilwara, Chittorgarh, Udaipur, Vijaynagar, and Dungarpur.
Each station is planned as a multi-modal hub with electric vehicle charging, local transit links, and last-mile connectivity. This infrastructure is expected to reduce heavy truck traffic between cities and shift more goods and passengers to cleaner, faster transport.
Udaipur will witness 127 km of track, eight tunnels, and five river crossings. Engineers say the project will use eco-friendly methods, including solar-powered stations and low-emission construction materials.
A special trial track is being built near Sambhar Lake (Nagaur district) under the Jodhpur Railway Division. This site will test new high-speed rail technologies before full-scale work begins.
A senior Railway Ministry official said:
“The detailed project report (DPR) for the Delhi-Ahmedabad corridor is ready and under review. Once approved, we expect the pre-construction phase to begin within 18 months.”
With climate-friendly planning, the bullet train is expected to reduce reliance on diesel trucks and short flights, cutting emissions. Tourism officials believe that improved access to heritage cities like Jaipur and Udaipur will also boost eco-tourism and rural development.
Environmental groups have called for careful construction near wildlife areas. Authorities are reviewing Environmental Impact Assessments to meet conservation norms.
If all goes as planned, the Delhi-Ahmedabad bullet train corridor will be ready by early 2032, changing how people and goods move across western India.
