Maharashtra Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule has taken a strong step towards improving farm roads across the state. He highlighted that high-quality Pannand roads were built in Nagpur at a cost of just 8 to 10 lakh rupees per kilometre. He urged other districts to study this cost-effective model and implement similar methods.
The minister has directed officials to take strict action against individuals blocking farm roads. He stated that legal action, including criminal charges, would be filed against those who create obstacles. He also stressed the importance of marking clear boundaries and ensuring that all farm roads are built with high-quality materials.
To improve Shiv Pannand and farm roads, the government sought public suggestions. Based on the feedback, a meeting was held at the Mantralaya on Thursday, chaired by Minister Bawankule. Registration Inspector General Ravindra Binwade also participated via video conference.
Minister Bawankule emphasised that Nagpur has developed excellent Pannand roads at a low cost. He encouraged other districts to study this successful model and adopt similar approaches.
In addition, he announced that village-level farm road committees would be set up to monitor the construction work. These committees will inspect the roads and submit reports to the government. The minister also instructed that all pending Pannand road-related cases should be resolved within a month.
The minister made another important announcement – the government will abolish fees for surveying farm roads and providing police protection.
Moreover, if anyone removes road markings after the survey, strict action will be taken against them. This includes imposing fines to prevent such practices in the future.
Regarding disputes over farm roads, Minister Bawankule stated that appeals can be made to the sub-divisional officer if there is a disagreement with the tahsildar’s decision. The final ruling will be given by the government.
Additionally, he made it clear that no land distribution letters will be approved unless the farm roads are properly mentioned.
This initiative aims to enhance farm road infrastructure, ultimately benefiting farmers and rural communities across Maharashtra. By implementing the Nagpur model, the government hopes to create better connectivity and improve access to farmlands.
