Madhya Pradesh Accelerates Road Development with Modern Tech and Public-Centric Vision

Roads Now Serve as a Backbone for Growth, Equity, and Innovation

Infrastructure development in Madhya Pradesh is witnessing a major transformation under the motto Lok Nirman Se Lok Kalyan. The state’s Public Works Department (PWD) is reshaping roads as not just pathways of transport but as enablers of inclusive development. With a focus on modern technology, environmental sensitivity, and public participation, Madhya Pradesh is setting new benchmarks in infrastructure development.

Historic Push for Highway Expansion and Connectivity

To boost connectivity across backward and urban areas, the state has upgraded 4,740 km of national highways to four lanes. Work is underway for an additional 3,050 km.

A major agreement between the Madhya Pradesh Government and NHAI has been signed for 22 new road projects spanning 4,010 km with a total investment of ₹1 lakh crore. These projects include key expressways and high-speed corridors such as:

  • Indore-Bhopal Greenfield Corridor
  • Bhopal-Jabalpur Corridor
  • Lucknow-Raipur Expressway
  • Agra-Gwalior Highway
  • Ujjain-Jhalawar Route
  • Satna-Chitrakoot and Rewa-Sidhi Highways

Statement from PWD

“A road is no longer just a road. It is a promise of progress, connection, and empowerment. Every project undertaken today lays the foundation for a better tomorrow,” stated an official from the Public Works Department.

With every kilometer built, Madhya Pradesh moves one step closer to holistic development—proving that every road now leads towards public good.

Special Projects for Simhastha and Urban Transport

In preparation for Ujjain Simhastha 2028, the Indore-Ujjain road is being widened to six lanes. Additionally, the Ujjain-Jaora Greenfield Expressway, the state’s first full greenfield expressway, is under development. Ropeway projects in Ujjain, Sagar, and Jabalpur are also in progress with central government support.

Tech-Driven Quality Control and Monitoring

To ensure quality and transparency in road construction:

  • New technologies such as Full Depth Reclamation, White Topping, and Micro Surfacing are being used.
  • Software-based inspection with secret coding and sampling systems has been implemented.
  • In the last two months, 104 construction works across 21 districts were inspected, with actions taken based on quality reports.

Digital Innovation and Citizen-Centric Monitoring

Technological tools have been introduced to make governance transparent and efficient:

  • Lok Path Mobile App
  • Sarthak App
  • Integrated Project Management System
  • PM Gati Shakti Portal

Human Resource Development and Long-Term Planning

  • Skill assessment conducted for all 1,750 engineers of the department.
  • Structured training modules launched.
  • Work underway on a Road Network Master Plan and comprehensive Road Sector Policy for sustainable growth.

Environmental Responsibility with Development

Madhya Pradesh PWD has embraced green practices:

  • Tree transplantation is being preferred over cutting.
  • Initiatives like Ground Water Recharge Bores and Lok Kalyan Sarovar are being promoted to improve water conservation.

A Vision of Prosperity through Infrastructure

This massive and citizen-focused infrastructure movement is a reflection of the state’s larger goal of self-reliance and inclusive growth. Roads in Madhya Pradesh now symbolize progress in health, education, trade, tourism, and agriculture.
