Kanpur is on track to improve regional connectivity through a new four-lane highway project stretching 6.7 km, linking Ganga Barrage to Shuklaganj Marhala. Once completed, the project will reduce travel time and ease traffic congestion, especially for those commuting to major cities like Lucknow, Ayodhya, and Raebareli.
A significant infrastructure push from the Public Works Department (PWD) promises enhanced travel efficiency in the region.
The project is halfway completed, with approximately 3.5 km of road already asphalted. The civil construction work is being carried out with an allocation of ₹42 crore, while the total estimated cost stands at ₹75 crore.
₹10 crore has been allotted for relocating electrical poles and transformers. Additionally, ₹23 crore has been earmarked to compensate landowners affected by the project between Suraiya Railway crossing and Marhala Chauraha Nabi Nagar Azad Marg.
The new highway includes integrated drainage systems, pedestrian pathways, street lighting, and properly marked intersections with traffic signals. These upgrades are aimed at ensuring safety, ease of access, and urban aesthetics.
Shah Noor, Assistant Engineer at PWD, stated, “The asphalting of 3.5 km of road is done, and work is progressing swiftly. Landowners affected by the project will be compensated adequately. Once completed, this road will bring major relief to commuters and benefit local businesses.”
Once operational, the new four-lane highway will not only reduce congestion in the Kanpur region but also enhance last-mile connectivity for surrounding communities. Commercial transporters and local businesses are expected to benefit from reduced travel time and improved access.
The Kanpur road project reflects Uttar Pradesh’s ongoing commitment to strengthening infrastructure and promoting smoother inter-city movement. As the construction progresses towards full completion, it is poised to unlock greater economic and logistic potential across the region.
