JCB’s innovative hydrogen combustion engines are set to change how construction sites and farms operate. This development is part of a larger initiative to boost the UK’s hydrogen industry. A new joint venture called HyKit has been launched, aiming to create agile infrastructure for green hydrogen usage.
HyKit is a collaboration between JCB investment company HYCAP, and green pioneer HydraB Group. This partnership will focus on producing key products for the clean economy. The venture will manufacture essential infrastructure for hydrogen distribution.
This year, HyKit plans to develop a range of products to support hydrogen distribution. These will include mobile compressors, storage solutions, and refueling systems. These products are being developed in coordination with JCB’s hydrogen engineering division. They will provide crucial infrastructure for operators of hydrogen-powered machinery in the construction, agricultural, and transportation sectors.
JCB Chairman Lord Bamford emphasized the potential of hydrogen as a fuel for the future. He stated, “JCB has proven that hydrogen can power construction and agricultural machinery without carbon emissions.” He believes that the new infrastructure will play a vital role in supporting the use of hydrogen fuel. Lord Bamford added, “HyKit’s launch shows our commitment to the hydrogen economy and our goal to drive the industry forward with UK-engineered equipment.”
Jo Bamford, Executive Chairman of HydraB Group, highlighted the importance of building a comprehensive hydrogen ecosystem. He explained, “Since 2019, we’ve been assembling a network of companies to establish this industry.” He noted that their efforts have already delivered hydrogen-fueled buses, diggers, and telehandlers. Now, the focus is on creating the necessary infrastructure to integrate these technologies.
Jo Bamford emphasized the significance of hydrogen in the UK’s energy future. “Our commitment is clear – we are creating the ecosystem to help businesses see that hydrogen is a key part of the UK’s energy mix,” he said.
James Munce, CEO of HYCAP, expressed confidence in the venture’s potential. He stated, “Integrating JCB’s industrial expertise into HyKit will set new standards for reliability and affordability in hydrogen distribution and dispensing equipment.” This initiative represents a significant step in advancing the hydrogen economy and promoting energy transition.
The launch of HyKit underscores the collaborative efforts to revolutionize how green hydrogen is utilized, supporting a cleaner and more sustainable future.
