A Milestone in India’s Infrastructure Development
India’s first eight-lane tunnel on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, passing through the Mukundra Hills Tiger Reserve (MHTR), is nearing completion. The tunnel consists of two parallel tubes, each featuring four lanes. Spanning a total of 4.9 km, it includes a 3.3 km underground section, while the remaining 1.6 km is being constructed using the cut-and-cover technique.
Key Construction Updates
- Tube-1 Completion: The first tunnel, connecting Kota to Chechat, has been successfully excavated. Engineers and workers recently celebrated this significant milestone.
- Tube-2 Progress: The second tunnel, running from Chechat to Kota, is also nearing completion, with just 60 meters of excavation remaining. This phase is expected to be completed within a month.
- Final Modifications: Following excavation, further modifications will be carried out to adjust the tunnel’s width and height in specific sections.
- Next Steps: The excavation process is projected to be fully completed by June 2024. Subsequently, road construction and other essential infrastructure work will begin, ensuring the tunnel is operational soon.
Enhancing Connectivity and Traffic Efficiency
The completion of this tunnel will significantly improve traffic flow on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, reducing travel time and enhancing connectivity. By integrating advanced engineering techniques, the project is set to become a landmark in India’s highway infrastructure.
