The Gujarat government has unveiled two major expressway projects worth ₹96,240 crore to improve state-wide connectivity and accelerate economic growth. Minister of State Jagdish Vishwakarma made the announcement during discussions on Budget demands in the Gujarat Assembly.
The Gujarat government plans to finalize the expressway alignments within the next six months, followed by the preparation of a detailed project report (DPR), which will determine private land acquisition requirements.
These expressways will significantly contribute to Gujarat's already extensive road network, which spans over 1.11 lakh kilometers, including national and state highways as well as district and rural roads. The state budget for 2024-25 has earmarked ₹10,045 crore for road construction, expansion, and maintenance, reinforcing Gujarat's commitment to infrastructure growth.
Minister Jagdish Vishwakarma stated, “These expressways are crucial for enhancing connectivity across Gujarat and promoting economic growth. The government is dedicated to strengthening infrastructure through strategic investments.”
Beyond these new projects, the Gujarat government is actively working on completing the Vadodara-Mumbai Expressway, a key component of the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor. This project is expected to enhance trade and commerce. Additionally, national programs like the Bharatmala Pariyojana and Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) are contributing to expanding rural road networks across the state.
With these expressway projects, the Gujarat government is taking significant steps toward enhancing connectivity and supporting economic development. By investing in large-scale infrastructure, the state aims to facilitate seamless transportation and attract investment, reinforcing Gujarat’s position as a key economic hub in India.
