The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has started construction of Gujarat’s first rubber-cum-barrage bridge over the Sabarmati River. This one-kilometer, six-lane bridge will cost around Rs. 300 crore and will make it easier to travel between eastern and western Ahmedabad. It will also provide a direct route from Sabarmati to the airport via Sadar Bazaar.
Standing Committee Chairman Devang Dani shared that 10,000 square meters of land from Torrent Power, near Rathi Apartment, has been acquired. This land will be used for constructing the approach road, which will also connect to the Sabarmati Riverfront.
This bridge is a key part of the Sabarmati Riverfront Project Phase-2. It will stretch 1,047 meters, linking Acher on the west bank with Camp Sadar Bazaar on the east bank. Approach bridges on both sides will ensure smooth integration with the riverfront road.
The new bridge will reduce traffic congestion and make it easier for people from North Gujarat, Sabarmati, Chandkheda, Hansol, Motera, and nearby areas to reach the airport. Currently, they have to take a longer route via Shahibaug Dafnala.
Additionally, a 2 to 2.5-meter-wide pedestrian footpath will be built under the bridge to improve connectivity along the Sabarmati Riverfront.
