Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath officially inaugurated the Gorakhpur Link Expressway—a major 91.35-km infrastructure project built at a cost of ₹7,283.28 crore. This new expressway aims to reduce travel time and improve connectivity from Gorakhpur to the Purvanchal Expressway. Moreover, it benefits local commuters, farmers, and especially truck drivers transporting goods across Eastern UP.
The expressway connects Jaitpur near NH-27 in Gorakhpur to Salarpur in Azamgarh, passing through four districts: Gorakhpur, Sant Kabir Nagar, Ambedkar Nagar, and Azamgarh. Areas like Urwa, Dhuriyapar, Khajni, and Belghat will now see travel times cut significantly. For instance, reaching Urwa will now take just 20–25 minutes instead of an hour.
Built in two major packages by APCO Infratech and Dilip Buildcon the four-lane expressway is ready for future expansion to six lanes. It includes modern traffic systems like CCTV surveillance, automatic number plate recognition, and speed detection, ensuring a safer ride for trucks and private vehicles.
To construction of the expressway, over 1,148 hectares of land were acquired from 172 villages. The government paid ₹2,030.29 crore as compensation to 22,029 farmers—ensuring fair settlement for the landowners.
This is Uttar Pradesh’s seventh operational expressway and the fifth one launched in just eight years, marking a major milestone in the state's infrastructure growth. The Gorakhpur Link Expressway will not only ease truck movement but also create faster trade and transport routes across Eastern Uttar Pradesh.
