Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has proposed a comprehensive upgrade for 90 city junctions at an estimated cost of Rs 233 crore. Out of these, 74 works have already been approved.
The proposed improvements focus on enhancing traffic flow and safety. This includes the development of traffic islands, improvements to roundabouts, the creation of free left channels, and the installation of signboards.
The GHMC's plan also includes the beautification of these junctions. Greenery will be developed, and artworks will be installed to enhance the visual appeal. In addition, road markings, signboards, and the construction of divider blocks will help segregate traffic.
GHMC also said, “Providing of road markings and signboards, building divider blocks to segregate the traffic, construction and raising of central median and improving of road geometrics at accident spots, other civil works, etc will also be taken up.”
To further improve road safety, the construction and raising of central medians at critical spots will be undertaken. The plan also includes upgrading road geometrics at accident-prone locations to reduce accidents and improve traffic flow.
The proposed upgrades will be spread across different police commissionerates. Of the 90 junctions, 29 are located within the Hyderabad police commissionerate, 25 in Cyberabad, and 36 in Rachakonda. These improvements are expected to provide significant relief to commuters and enhance traffic management across the city.
