Prayagraj: Commuting has now started on the newly built Ganga-Yamuna bypass roads, which stretch from Nagvasuki Temple to Phaphamau along the riverbanks. These bypass roads have been constructed to ease traffic flow towards Sangam, especially during the Maha Kumbh. The roads are designed to improve access and reduce congestion, making travel more convenient for pilgrims and visitors.
The newly constructed Ganga-Yamuna bypass roads cover a total length of 14.50 km, with an investment of Rs 100 crore across three sections. These roads provide residents from Lucknow, Rae Bareli, Pratapgarh, Faizabad, Ayodhya, Amethi, and Sultanpur in the Awadh region with quicker access to Sangam.
Instead of taking longer routes through Allahabad University, Alanganj, and Balson Crossing, travelers can now directly reach Sangam via Ganga Path from Phaphamau Bridge. Additionally, a new connecting road is being built near Azad Setu between Phaphamau and Teliarganj to further link with Ganga Path.
Traffic has begun on two new routes: one along the Ganga banks and the other on the Junsi side. Although interlocking work is still ongoing over a 150-meter stretch in the Salori section of the Nagvasuki to Rasulabad road, vehicles are still using the newly constructed route.
The specifications of the new roads vary across different locations. The Jhunsi section, located on the left bank of the Ganga, is 15 meters wide. The road along the right bank of the Ganga measures 10 meters, while the road along the Yamuna bank is 8 meters wide. Additionally, the Rasulabad-Chhatnag road connects to the River Front Road, with a section extending into the Sangam area.
Digvijay Narayan Shukla, Executive Engineer of the Irrigation Department, stated, “The construction of all three routes is almost complete. Work is going on to lay about 100m of interlocking on the road on the right side of Ganga in Salori."
