Traffic on the Lucknow-Kanpur Highway near the Sonik turn in Unnao is being rerouted due to ongoing construction work on the Ganga Expressway. The diversion is necessary for the installation of 16 girders for the expressway flyover.
The construction work began on Monday and will affect traffic for at least a month. One lane from Lucknow to Kanpur is closed, and vehicles from both directions are being diverted to a single lane. This change is expected to slow down traffic flow.
Earlier, a similar diversion was in place for 52 days on the Kanpur-to-Lucknow lane. That phase, covering a 200-meter stretch, was completed on December 12.
Now, work has shifted to the Lucknow-to-Kanpur lane. Traffic will be diverted from Bashiratganj to the Kanpur lane and will return to normal lanes after the Sonik turn.
Additional personnel are being deployed to manage the traffic and reduce congestion. Commuters are advised to plan their travel accordingly to avoid delays.
This development is part of the Ganga Expressway project aimed at improving regional connectivity.
