In Uttar Pradesh’s infrastructure growth, the long-awaited Ganga Expressway is on the verge of completion and is expected to become operational by the end of 2025. The 594-km expressway, being built by the UP Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA), is aimed at improving connectivity.
An official from UPEIDA, speaking on condition of anonymity, stated, “Most of the core construction work is done, and final touches like toll plaza setups and signage installation are in progress. The expressway is on track to open by the end of this year.”
The Ganga Expressway will stretch from Bijauli village in Meerut district to Judapur Dadu in Prayagraj, crossing 12 districts including Bulandshahr, Amroha, Badaun, Shahjahanpur, and Rae Bareli. This expressway will serve as a key artery for truck and freight movement, significantly enhancing logistics efficiency in central Uttar Pradesh.
Currently, trucks traveling between Prayagraj and Meerut take up to 12 hours via congested highways. With the expressway’s six-lane route (expandable to eight lanes), travel time will reduce to just 6–8 hours, enabling quicker cargo delivery and reduced fuel costs.
The toll rates for the expressway have been fixed for the financial year 2025–26. Cars will be charged ₹2.55/km, while trucks will pay ₹8.15/km. Oversized trucks could be charged ₹16.05/km. The rates are aligned with the Wholesale Price Index (WPI), and there may be relief for regular travelers using bypass roads.
Officials believe the project will decongest existing routes and encourage industrial investment. “This expressway will uplift local economies and improve the supply chain by providing a direct, high-speed route for trucks,” said a senior officer from the State Transport Department.
