In a bid to simplify toll payments and reduce congestion on Indian highways, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari announced the launch of a FASTag-based Annual Pass, priced at ₹3,000. This new system will come into effect from August 15, 2025, and is meant exclusively for non-commercial four-wheelers, such as cars, jeeps, and vans.
The pass will offer up to 200 toll-free trips or one year of highway access, whichever comes earlier. This move is expected to benefit daily commuters by streamlining toll payments and avoiding multiple deductions at closely located toll booths.
The government will soon release a dedicated link for activation and renewal of this pass through the Rajmarg Yatra App and official websites of NHAI and MoRTH. Owners can simply register their vehicle details and FASTag information to activate the pass digitally.
This digital-first system supports cashless travel, eliminates the need for repeated transactions, and ensures smoother passage at toll plazas.
Addressing a frequent issue faced by regular highway commuters, the minister emphasized that the new pass also aims to resolve problems related to closely spaced toll plazas, often located within a 60 km stretch.
With this annual system, users pay once and enjoy consistent access, promoting predictable and dispute-free tolling across highways.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari shared on social media, “This policy addresses long-standing concerns regarding toll plazas located within a 60 km range and simplifies toll payments through a single, affordable transaction. By reducing wait times, easing congestion, and minimising disputes at toll plazas, the Annual Pass aims to deliver a faster and smoother travel experience.”
The FASTag system, operational across India since February 2021, has already reduced cash transactions and streamlined toll collection. However, challenges remained, especially for regular commuters dealing with repetitive toll charges.
The Annual Pass builds upon the FASTag framework, offering a flat-fee model that simplifies travel and encourages digital toll compliance.
With this new pass, the government takes a meaningful step toward intelligent highway management and user-friendly toll systems. As digital solutions continue to reshape India’s infrastructure, the FASTag Annual Pass is set to become a practical tool for smoother, more efficient highway travel.
By offering both affordability and ease of use, the scheme reinforces the Centre’s commitment to a cashless, technology-driven transportation ecosystem.
