BBMP Pushes Forward with Construction Despite Land Issues
Bengaluru: The construction of the much-delayed 2.5-km Ejipura flyover is moving faster now. The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has deployed a second launching girder to speed up the project. This flyover will connect Koramangala’s Kendriya Sadan and Ejipura on the Inner Ring Road.
The authorities have now set a new deadline for the project – December 2025. This decision is expected to push the work forward at a steady pace.
On Tuesday, Transport Minister and BTM Layout MLA Ramalinga Reddy visited the construction site. He was accompanied by BBMP engineers to check the progress.
He shared that in the last month, around 10% of the civil work has been completed. This is a major improvement because, earlier, the new contractor had completed only 10% of the project since taking over. The previous contractor had failed to finish the work due to financial issues.
However, Reddy pointed out that land acquisition is still a challenge. Even though the project was approved almost seven years ago, BBMP has not acquired all the required land.
A small portion has been acquired, but a large part of the land, which belongs to St John’s Hospital, is still pending. Reddy assured that he will discuss with the hospital management to speed up the process.
The project has gained momentum in the last month due to Reddy’s involvement. He had recently held a meeting with all the stakeholders after complaints surfaced. Many people had raised concerns that the construction firm was not meeting BBMP’s monthly targets since the project resumed in November 2023.
BBMP had even thought of canceling the contract, but Reddy advised against it. He explained that terminating the contract would cause more delays. Instead, he urged the contractor to speed up the work and ensure timely completion.
With the second launching girder in place and regular monitoring, the project is now expected to progress faster, bringing hope for early completion.
