Guwahati Ring Road: Easing Traffic & Boosting Assam's Growth
Ahmedabad-based construction firm Dineshchandra R Agrawal Infracon Pvt Ltd (DRA Infracon) has been awarded the contract to develop the 121.43 km Guwahati Ring Road. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has declared DRA Infracon as the selected bidder and issued a Letter of Acceptance (LOA).

- Project Length: The total length of the proposed Guwahati Ring Road is approximately 121.43 km, which is expected to enhance road connectivity and facilitate smoother transportation in the region.
- Estimated Cost: The entire project has been estimated to cost around Rs 4617.45 crore, covering construction, land acquisition, and related infrastructure development.
- Construction Model: The project will be executed under the Design Build Finance Operate and Transfer (DBFOT) model on a toll basis, ensuring a structured approach to financing and operational management.
- Completion Target: The expected time frame for completing the entire project is set at four years from the date of appointment, ensuring timely execution and delivery of the much-needed road network.
- Performance Security Requirement: The selected developer is required to provide a performance security of Rs 148.64 crore to ensure due diligence and adherence to project specifications.
Project Details
The Guwahati Ring Road project includes three major sections:
- Northern Guwahati Bypass: A 4-lane Greenfield road from Baihata Chariali via Kurua, Chandrapur to Sonapur.
- Widening of NH-27: Expansion from 4-lane to 6-lane between Jayanagar Underpass and Jorabat Junction.
- NH-27 Improvement: Enhancements to multiple stretches of NH-27, excluding Section-2.
Key Infrastructure Addition
- Brahmaputra River Bridge: A 4-lane bridge connecting Kurua (north bank) to Narengi (south bank).
Next Steps for DRA Infracon
As per the LOA, DRA Infracon must follow specific procedures:
- Acknowledge the LOA.
- Execute a Concession Agreement.
- Form a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) to manage the project.
- Furnish performance security within 180 days of the Concession Agreement signing.
- Comply with all Request for Proposal (RFP) terms.

The Guwahati Ring Road project aims to improve traffic flow and connectivity in and around Guwahati, easing congestion and supporting economic development in Assam.
