The Delhi-Jaipur Highway is set to get two new flyovers, one in Manesar and the other in Bilaspur, starting by the end of June. This construction project, costing Rs 115 crore, will make the journey easier for more than 40,000 motorists who travel this route daily. The tender process for the flyover construction has been completed, and soon work will begin.
The tender for constructing these flyovers has already been opened, and eight construction companies are now competing for the project. By the end of this month, one of these companies will be selected to carry out the work. After the selection, the construction work will begin in June, as planned. Local authorities and officials are speeding up preparations to ensure the project starts without delay.
The need for flyovers at these two locations has been discussed for many years, as the traffic at Manesar and Bilaspur has always been a major issue. Last month, the local MP and Union Minister of State for Planning, Rao Indrajit Singh, met with the Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, to push for this project. Following the meeting, Gadkari instructed the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to start constructing both flyovers at the same time. This has led to faster preparations for the project.
The traffic jams at Manesar and Bilaspur have caused daily frustration for thousands of drivers. The new flyovers will solve these problems and also help reduce the number of accidents on the highway. The area is known for heavy traffic, especially during rush hours, and the flyovers will help ease congestion for both light and heavy vehicles, making the drive smoother.
The project will also benefit people from six states, including Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi. These states all have people who travel the Delhi-Jaipur Highway regularly. The flyovers will make it easier for them to pass through the highway without delays. Additionally, the dense population around Manesar and Bilaspur means that many people cross the highway on foot, which can sometimes lead to accidents.
Over 40,000 vehicles pass through Manesar and Bilaspur daily, contributing to the high traffic volume on the Delhi-Jaipur Highway. At the Kherki Daula toll plaza, which is located nearby, approximately 80,000 vehicles pass through every day, generating a daily revenue of Rs 48 lakh for the NHAI. However, only about 50% of these vehicles go beyond Manesar, adding extra pressure on the traffic in the area.
In Bilaspur, the main issue is that it is a crossroad connecting important roads to areas like Tawadu and Pataudi. Moreover, the presence of nearby industrial areas, such as Binola, means that many heavy vehicles pass through Bilaspur, increasing the traffic load.
Apart from easing traffic, these flyovers will also help in reducing accidents. The heavy traffic in these areas is a significant cause of road accidents, especially for pedestrians and vehicles trying to make turns. Local residents, such as Prof. KK Yadav, a retired town planner from Manesar, have long demanded the construction of flyovers in the area. He believes that these flyovers will not only make traveling safer but also promote faster development in surrounding areas.
The work on the ground level is expected to begin by the end of June. The construction process will take place over the next 30 months, and the flyovers are expected to be completed within this time frame. The project’s successful completion will mark a major improvement in travel for the thousands of people who use this route every day.
