To address growing traffic concerns, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has initiated detailed project reports (DPRs) for three crucial road projects in Delhi. These roads aim to connect upcoming expressways, reducing congestion on major arterial roads.
1. UER-II to Delhi-Katra Expressway Link
A 20-km stretch will be developed to link UER-II via KMP Expressway to the Delhi-Katra Expressway. This will provide direct access for vehicles from Jammu & Kashmir and Punjab to the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway and IGI Airport. The estimated cost is around Rs 2,500 crore.
2. UER-II to Tronica City via Delhi-Dehradun Expressway
This 17-km road will facilitate smooth travel from Rajasthan and Haryana to Dehradun, reducing congestion on the Ring Road. Additionally, it will provide a direct route for Dehradun-bound vehicles to IGI Airport via UER-II and Dwarka Expressway. The travel time is expected to reduce from 90 minutes to 45 minutes.
3. Delhi-Dehradun Expressway to Noida Corridor
A 35-km corridor will function as a bypass for East Delhi, ensuring seamless connectivity from North, North-West, and South-West Delhi to Noida.
An NHAI official stated, "We aim to complete the DPRs within 6-7 months to kickstart construction at the earliest. The exact alignment and configuration will be finalized post-DPR completion."
Another official highlighted the necessity of alternative transport solutions, saying, "While road infrastructure expansion is crucial, a comprehensive mobility plan, including mass transport systems, is equally important to manage Delhi’s traffic growth."
Once the DPRs are finalized, fund allocation and work plans will follow. These roads are expected to significantly ease traffic movement, improve travel efficiency, and enhance connectivity with neighboring states.
With a structured approach to urban mobility, these road projects mark a major step in decongesting Delhi’s roads and ensuring smoother travel for commuters and freight transporters alike.
