The Indian Defence Ministry has signed contracts with ACE Limited and JCB India Limited to buy 1,868 Rough Terrain Fork Lift Trucks (RTFLT). These trucks will help the Indian Army, Air Force, and Navy with various tasks. The total cost of the deal is Rs 697.35 crore. The agreement was signed in the presence of Defence Secretary RK Singh.
These rough-terrain forklift trucks are very useful for military operations. They will help move heavy items without manual effort. This will make the work easier and faster for the armed forces. The trucks will also improve logistics and support during combat.
According to the Defence Ministry, this project will create many job opportunities. The trucks’ components will be made by Indian small and medium enterprises (MSMEs). This will support local businesses and boost India's economy.
This project is part of India’s plan to become self-reliant in defence manufacturing. The government has introduced several policies to encourage local production. By making more defence equipment in India, the country will reduce its dependency on other nations.
India’s defence sector is growing rapidly. More money is being invested in manufacturing defence and aerospace equipment. Many global companies are also interested in sharing their expertise with India.
Additionally, India’s defence exports have increased significantly. In the financial year 2023-24, India exported defence products worth Rs 21,083 crore. This is a 32.5% increase compared to the previous year. Over the last decade, India’s defence exports have grown 31 times.
