Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma laid the foundation stones of four major flyovers in Dibrugarh. The total investment for this will be Rs 376 crore. This is the initiative to change the city's road network. The CM said that such projects will bring balanced growth to Assam, making development reach beyond Guwahati.
He stated that infrastructure like flyovers is the only way to improve connectivity and reduce the traffic jams in the city during the event when asked to state his vision of making Dibrugarh the second capital of Assam.
There are four flyovers strategically designed for easy traffic and better mobility across Dibrugarh.
These projects aim to reduce the rising traffic problem and provide easy accessibility to commercial hubs and residential neighbourhoods.
The CM also came up with ambitious plans to reduce the travel time between Guwahati and Dibrugarh. He announced that the 4-lane highway project from Numaligarh to Dibrugarh would be completed by 2026. This is expected to cut travel time from eight hours to five hours.
In addition, the CM hinted at plans to have an express highway connecting Guwahati and Dibrugarh. He did not give any concrete details or the timeline for it.
The Chief Minister planned a new assembly complex in Dibrugarh. It will house the residential quarters for the MLAs, and the session of one of the four annual Assam Assembly sessions will be held there. This move would decentralise governance and take the government to the people's doorsteps.
These projects reflect the government's efforts toward ensuring that Assam's development is widespread. With better infrastructure, travel time reduction, and decentralised governance, Dibrugarh is to become one of the crucial state hubs.
