Caterpillar has introduced the FM528 General Forestry/Log Loader, a machine designed to handle tough forestry and mill-yard tasks. This new model is built for professionals who need high efficiency, durability, and comfort while working in challenging environments.
The FM528 is a triple-grouser tracked unit that can be used for land clearing, fire clean-up, chipping, grinder loading, mulching, and processing. It also supports Caterpillar’s forestry grapples, available in sizes ranging from 1,322mm to 1,524mm. This makes it highly adaptable to different job requirements.
One of the biggest highlights of this machine is its fixed or live heel and blade configuration, which is a first-ever feature in Caterpillar’s forest machines. This helps operators easily handle steep terrain, heavy logs, and sorting tasks. The FM528 also offers processor, roadbuilder, log loader, and knuckle boom loader control options, allowing crews to switch between different forestry and mill-yard tasks effortlessly.
The FM528 is powered by a 129kW (173hp) Cat C4.4e TTA diesel engine, which follows EPA Tier 4, EU Stage V, and Japan 2014 emission standards. The electrohydraulic system ensures smooth and precise operation. In addition, the engine works at low RPMs, which reduces wear and tear, helping to lower maintenance costs.
The machine also comes with a cooling E-Fan system with reversing capabilities, allowing for better temperature control and engine efficiency.
Caterpillar has designed the FM528 to share common parts and service requirements with its Next Generation excavators. This ensures that replacement parts are easily available, reducing downtime. Moreover, the machine uses long-life fuel and hydraulic oil filters, which come with extended and synchronised service intervals, helping to cut maintenance costs even further.
With all these features, the Caterpillar FM528 is set to become a trusted and efficient solution for forestry professionals working in both woods and mill yards.
