The CASE NX Series is a popular range of backhoe loaders widely used for earthwork and road construction projects. Among them, the CASE 770 NX and 770 NX Magnum stand out for CEV Stage V engines and 3 power modes. Both of these models focus on the operator comfort and safety with 360° visibility and ergonomic controls. However, contractors often get confused about which model to choose for their construction project.
We have laid out major differences between CASE 770 NX and 770 NX Magnum to help contractors make the right decision:
In this section, we explain how CASE 770 NX and 770 NX Magnum differ in engine performance, fuel efficiency, and performance.

Both the CASE 770 NX and 770 NX Magnum use the CNH F28 four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine. The engine produces about 74 HP at 2,200 rpm and delivers 375 Nm torque around 1,400 rpm.
However, the difference in hydraulic setup directly affects their performance and the suitability of these backhoe loaders. The standard 770 NX delivers 119 litres per minute, suitable for general excavation, shallow trenching, and material handling. This makes it easy to control, especially for less experienced operators or smaller contractors.
The CASE 770 NX Magnum uses the same engine with a stronger hydraulic system delivering 143 litres per minute. This allows the engine to hold its torque better when the machine is under heavy strain. Therefore, Magnum is used for digging in compact clay, mixed soil, or light rock patches.

On the front loader, both CASE 770 NX and 770 NX Magnum share the same 1.1 cubic metre bucket capacity. In addition, their dump height also stands at 2.73 metres.
However, the difference lies in their loader bucket breakout force. With 5650 kGf / 55.40 kN, 770 NX Magnum has a higher bucket breakout force than the standard 770 NX. Its stronger hydraulics give it a higher breakout force. This means it can cut into compact soil or gravel with less wheel spin and less engine strain.
With 5400 kGf / 53 kN, 770 NX performs well when loading loose soil, sand, or construction debris. It is easy to manoeuvre and works comfortably in small spaces such as housing sites or municipal yards.

The 770 NX reaches around 4.4 metres of maximum digging depth. This digging depth is suitable for:
The 770 NX Magnum extends this reach to about 4.7 metres. During heavy construction, it can reduce the number of times the operator has to reposition the machine. In narrow streets or congested urban areas, fewer repositionings mean faster work and less traffic disturbance.
Therefore, the digging depth of 770 NX Magnum is more suitable for:
Both CASE 770 NX and 770 NX Magnum come with three efficiency modes:
These models also have Auto Idle and Auto Shutdown features. With such advanced modes and features, both of these Case backhoe loaders offer fuel efficiency up to 20%.
However, the difference in operating weights and lifting capacities of backhoes & loaders may affect the fuel consumption. 770 NX Magnum, for instance, has a higher backhoe lifting capacity of 1477 kg. Therefore, it may consume more fuel during heavy construction and mining projects.
CASE 770 NX model fits well in:
Best use cases for CASE 770 NX Magnum are:
Here’s a quick comparison between 770 NX and 770 NX Magnum based on their specifications:
| Specs | CASE 770 NX | CASE 770 NX Magnum |
| Dump Height | 2.73 metres | 2.73 metres |
| Bucket Breakout Force | 5400 kGf / 53 kN | 5650 kGf / 55.40 kN |
| Max Lifting Capacity (Loader) | 3430 Kg | 3650 Kg |
| Max Digging Depth | 4.4 metres | 4.70 metres |
| Bucket Capacity (m³) | 0.26 | 0.3 |
| Max Lifting Capacity (Backhoe) | 1417 Kg | 1477 Kg |
| Operating Weight | 7600 Kg | 7700 Kg |
Choosing between the CASE 770 NX and CASE 770 NX Magnum variant depends on soil type, digging depth, and daily workload. The 770 NX model suits lighter, scattered jobs where ease of control and fuel savings matter. The Magnum performs better in dense ground, deep trenches, and long shifts thanks to higher hydraulic flow, stronger breakout force, and greater lifting capacity.
