Bihar will receive more than Rs 10,000 crore for railway infrastructure development in FY2026-27. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced the record allocation during his visit to the state on Friday.
Mr Vaishnaw made the announcement during a programme in Saran. There, he flagged off the Chapra–Delhi (Anand Vihar) Express, Mau–Delhi (Anand Vihar) Express and the extended Doohri Ghat–Aunrihar MEMU service to Varanasi.
Two newly launched express trains will connect Chapra and Mau with Delhi's Anand Vihar. Additionally, the Doohri Ghat–Aunrihar MEMU train service has been extended to Varanasi.
Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary attended the programme, while Uttar Pradesh minister AK Sharma joined virtually.
Addressing the gathering, Mr Vaishnaw said five additional platforms are being built at Patna railway junction to increase passenger handling capacity.
He also said development work is underway at Fatuha railway station near Patna.
The minister highlighted the expansion of Bihar's railway network over the past 12 years. He said 2,034 km of new tracks were laid under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership.
Mr Vaishnaw said high-speed rail connectivity linking Delhi, Lucknow, Varanasi, Patna and Siliguri is expected to become operational in the coming years.
“Bullet train connectivity from Delhi to Lucknow, Lucknow to Varanasi, Varanasi to Patna and Patna to Siliguri will begin in the coming years. The journey time from Delhi to Patna will be reduced to just 4 hours and 41 minutes once the bullet train becomes operational,” he informed.
The minister also said the Centre is preparing to introduce 200 new trains in Bihar over the next seven to eight years.
