Bihar's road infrastructure has received a significant boost with the completion of over 100 projects worth Rs 11,500 crore in the past year. Completed and Ongoing Projects

• Over 1,540 km of roads have been constructed or upgraded in the past year.
• The government aims to upgrade all single-lane state highways to two-lane roads, with work set to begin soon.
• A bridge maintenance policy is being introduced to ensure continuous monitoring and timely repairs.

New Approvals and Future Plans

• A new road project worth Rs 16,000 crore has been approved following Union Minister Nitin Gadkari’s visit.
• The Mokama-Munger road is being expanded to four lanes, with Rs 5,013 crore allocated for constructing two spurs connecting Barh and Ashok Dham.
• The central government allocated Rs 26,000 crore for Bihar’s road construction in the recent Budget announcement.

Expansion of State and National Highways

• Bihar currently has 3,637 km of state highways and 16,296 km of roads in major districts.
• Efforts are underway to increase the length of national highways by identifying key state and district roads for MoRTH approval.

Railway Over Bridges (ROBs) for Safer Travel

• A request has been made to the Ministry of Railways for constructing 250 ROBs at railway crossings.

A senior government official added, “The approval of major road projects and increased budget allocation signal a transformative phase for Bihar’s road infrastructure. These developments will enhance connectivity and economic opportunities across the state.”
