BENGALURU: The Karnataka section of the Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway is now open to traffic. The 260-km expressway, still under construction in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, is expected to be fully operational by August 2025.
The 71-km stretch in Karnataka is already being used by locals and travelers enjoying long drives. The road extends to the end of the route, providing an easy drive back.
A temple near Jinnagera Cross in Hoskote had previously delayed work. However, it has since been relocated, and the 400-meter stretch is now complete. NHAI officials confirmed that only minor works remain, and the road is open to the public.
According to officials, “The expressway has exit points at Malur, Bangarpet and Bethamangala. As the entire stretch is yet to be completed, we are not collecting any toll fee. The expressway is now used by locals around the stretch and those who go on long drives.”
The Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway passes through three states: Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu. With a maximum speed limit of 120 km/h, it aims to reduce travel time between Bengaluru and Chennai from over six hours to just three hours.
