Chandigarh: Punjab minister Harjot Singh Bains met Union road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari in Delhi on Wednesday. He urged the four-laning of roads connecting key religious sites. These include Kiratpur Sahib, Anandpur Sahib, and Naina Devi. The move aims to ease pilgrim travel and boost accessibility.
Bains stated that detailed project reports (DPRs) were ready for execution. He emphasized the importance of four-laning the road from Kiratpur Sahib to the Mahitpur border in Himachal Pradesh's Una district. The minister also proposed a 50-km greenfield expressway from Anandpur Sahib to Chamkaur Sahib. This project aims to enhance connectivity between Himachal Pradesh and Punjab's Ludhiana. Bains suggested naming the proposed road as Guru Gobind Singh Expressway. He said,“If this 50km-long expressway is constructed, it will connect Ropar-Ludhiana highway and Kiratpur-Manali highway.”
Accompanied by Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora, Bains emphasized the historical and geographical importance of Anandpur Sahib. He also addressed the region’s road infrastructure needs. An official revealed that Gadkari had approved the four-laning of Kiratpur Sahib and Banga-Anandpur Sahib roads. He also approved the development of a greenfield expressway from Anandpur Sahib to Chamkaur Sahib.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and UP CM Yogi Adityanath discussed key infrastructure projects for Maha Kumbh 2025 in Prayagraj. They stressed the importance of completing works by December 25, 2024. The focus included highways, bypasses, and a new Ganga bridge. Safety upgrades, like CCTV installation and medical facilities, were also addressed. Broader road construction development plans worth Rs.1.39 lakh crore for Uttar Pradesh were reviewed.
Nagpur’s Ajni RoB area will undergo a major traffic decongestion project. A 60-meter underpass will be built near Ajni Railway Station, excluding heavy vehicles. The road from Ajni Bridge to TB Ward Square will be expanded to six lanes to improve traffic flow.
