In a significant move to bolster infrastructure and connectivity in Andhra Pradesh, the state government has unveiled plans to construct a greenfield semi-ring road around Visakhapatnam. This ambitious project aims to connect Rambilli in Anakapalli district to Bhogapuram in Vizianagaram district, enhancing regional connectivity and supporting the upcoming Bhogapuram International Airport.
The proposed semi-ring road will span approximately 90 kilometres, running west of the existing National Highway 16. Designed as a four-lane access-controlled carriageway with provisions for future expansion to eight lanes, the road will alleviate traffic congestion and provide an alternative route for commuters. Service roads will be constructed in populated stretches to ensure local accessibility, while strict access control will be maintained in high-speed zones.
This infrastructure initiative is strategically planned to interlink with other major projects in the region, such as the six-lane highway between Anakapalli and Anandapuram and the Anandapuram-Bhogapuram segment of NH-16. Doing so will boost logistics and transport infrastructure, particularly benefiting the Bhogapuram International Airport, which is poised to become a pivotal aviation hub in Andhra Pradesh.
