Andhra Pradesh's Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development, P Narayana, announced that the construction of Amaravati, the state's capital, will be completed within three years.
This ambitious project aims to transform Amaravati into one of the top five metropolitan cities in the world.
The Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) has approved projects worth Rs 242.76 billion. These include the construction of trunk roads, layouts, and iconic buildings.
One of the major projects is the Assembly building, which will span 103 acres and feature a 250-meter-tall structure. This will provide a panoramic view of the city.
Other key developments include an eight-story High Court, a 47-story General Administrative Department building, and five additional towers.
A CRDA meeting was held with Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu on Monday, where these projects were approved. According to a press statement, Minister P Narayana confirmed that all these constructions would be completed within three years.
In a briefing after the meeting, the MAUD Minister revealed that the CRDA has approved works worth Rs 452.49 billion so far. He added that the Assembly building will cover 11.22 lakh square meters and offer a view of the entire Amaravati capital, except during Assembly sessions.
The eight-story High Court will be built on 42 acres, covering 20.32 lakh square feet, at a cost of Rs 10.48 billion. The 47-story General Administrative Department (GAD) building will span 17.03 lakh square feet, as revealed by Minister Narayana.
In addition, five other towers will be constructed, covering 68.88 lakh square feet, with a total cost of Rs 46.88 billion.
To enhance basic amenities, Narayana outlined the construction of four highways and other roads, totaling 579.5 km in length. These projects will cost Rs 96.99 billion.
Further, Rs 77.94 billion will be allocated for trunk roads, and Rs 3.18 billion will be spent on STP works.
The total cost of the projects approved in the CRDA meeting on Monday amounts to Rs 242.76 billion. Narayana also confirmed that the tender process would begin next Monday and is expected to conclude by the end of the month. Any remaining tenders will be finalized by the end of January.
Narayana emphasized that all the projects would be completed within three years. This is part of the effort to transform Amaravati into one of the top five metropolitan cities globally.
He also addressed criticisms from certain leaders who had previously held positions in the former government. Narayana stated that these leaders were unfairly criticizing the state government. He suggested that they review the SOR and pointed out that the previous government's actions had led to increased construction costs.
The MAUD Minister clarified that necessary works would be carried out in all 29 villages involved in land pooling. He assured that farmers in the capital region would be treated fairly.
Narayana further confirmed that the state government would proceed with the construction of Amaravati once all legal and technical issues are resolved.
